Piecing Life Together

My mom moved in with us – August 26th, 2018.  I know that she is having trouble remembering things.  I also know she has likes and dislikes; habits – good and bad; she suffers from ailments and odd beliefs about how the world works and who God is…she can’t think or move fast anymore and she’s a Republican.

RIGHT?!

As I was folding and putting her laundry on her bed yesterday I remembered her doing that for me – my entire childhood.  She didn’t expect a thank you…an ‘atta girl’ – she just did it, every week.  What a drag to do laundry for 4 people every week, and yet…

I’m grateful to have her here – even if it’s hard to adjust to her as a permanent member of our family and not a long-term guest.  But then again, she’s 77 and not particularly healthy – seeing her as a long-term guest may be the stronger and more compassionate choice to make.

I’m still learning and growing – and so is she, in her way.  She was brave to come from the midwest to the east coast…stronger than she thinks.  Here we are piecing our new life together.  Bon voyage!
